If you are a regular reader of the Milaana blog you will have noticed that our team just gets bigger and bigger. I mean, just look at the list of Hero Profiles we’ve already compiled! More team members is great but can be a lot to manage. So we found another team member to come and help us out. Introducing Nonita, our HR Hero!
Tell us all about yourself. What is your story?
I am an international student from India studying psychology at the University of Queensland. I heard about Milaana through a friend of mine.
I wanted to work for a social enterprise that helps to give back to the community and makes a difference.
What is your role and what does it involve? What is your favourite part of the role?
I work as the HR Hero. I am creating a HR audit designed to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of Milaana. It will also help Milaana grow and help to create a favourable environment for future Milaana representatives. The favourite part of my role is that it challenges me to learn a subject that I am not learning at university and it pushes me to create and seek new resources that will help me do my work efficiently.
What skills and abilities are you improving?
I am learning new theories and applications of human resources management. It is also improving my time management skills and helping me prioritise my work.
What have been the highlights of your internship with Milaana and what has really challenged you and made you grow?
It is great to work with an enthusiastic team that motivates you to push yourself to be the best.
Working on new concepts and ideas that I haven’t learnt before has motivated me and has created new opportunities for myself, as well as making a difference in society and applying my knowledge to help others.
What has been your biggest aha! moment? When did you start feeling like part of the Milaana family?
My biggest aha! moment was when I started doing research for my human resources proposal and pitched the idea to my colleague. The Milaana family welcomed me from my first day at work and were open to new ideas. They made me feel comfortable and treated me like their own.
What really drives you and how are you going to change the world?
As I’m in my last semester of university, I have realised that giving back what I have learnt to help my community and help others achieve their goals is the most important thing in my life.
I strongly believe that education should be a right and not a privilege and I will do everything I can to help others receive it.
What do you hope to achieve during your time at Milaana?
I hope to improve my human resources management skills and get a sense of direction with regard to my life goals and how I want to achieve them.
What is next for you? Where do you see yourself in five years?
I am looking for opportunities to grow my idea for a social enterprise and connect with the right people. In five years, I see myself working to help children receive education and vocational training in impoverished regions.
