This 22 year old graduated from Bond University this year in International Business. But like all our heroes, April brought so much more to Milaana than her ‘area of study’. This talented, young individual was an integral part of Milaana’s beginnings since joining in late 2013 as the Marketing Design Assistant.

With her hidden talents in graphic design and marketing, April helped set the foundation for what Milaana is today and has grown so much herself (see her initial Hero profile here!).

While still completing her degree, 4 April put all her heart and soul into helping Milaana achieve its goals. Have you checked out this website recently? April helped provide insights and advice for this. Not only that, April created the template for those cool newsletters you get in your email from Milaana. But wait, there’s more! April designed and enhanced our marketing materials to help spread awareness of Milaana and increase student engagement.

“We made sure we pushed ourselves to the limits to see what we could achieve as a team. In early 2014, we achieved our project goals and we were also able to raise awareness by using a crowd-funding campaign,” April says.

It allowed her to combine her hobbies of graphic design and volunteering, to bring creativity to all the projects she worked, particularly going through different colour concepts, styles and processing designs. Although April studied international business, she admits that she wanted to become an interior designer. Reflecting on this, April says:

“At 22 years old, I have realised that life is too short to be doing the same thing and that is why I chose to explore my career options and find something unseen in an opportunity that will allow me to find myself and what I want in life.”

And that is precisely what she has done!photo

Aprils says that working with Milaana has given her the opportunity to meet and work with students who share the same passion and this experience will definitely help her in future employment. Her highlights include spreading the word about Milaana at universities and being motivated to achieve the best outcomes due to student’s positive reactions.

“It was a great feeling to be able to experience a little scoop of what the real business world feels like.”

photoMilaana Founder Hollie agrees!

“At Milaana we believe is should be easy for students to build their skills whilst also contributing to their communities.”

Hollie says April was an all-rounder and was a crucial part of Milaana’s developing stages. Her determination and drive to engage in new experiences and further develop her skills allowed April to shine bright at Milaana.

“It was such a pleasure to watch her grow and to be part of this stage of her personal/career development as she saw how valued her skills were and started applying them in real-word environments,” Hollie says.

With all this experience under her belt, April offers this advice for students.

“Engage in activities as much as you can and let your life live big. Be humble and let life surprise you to see how far you can go. Milaana can reach more people who are not only career-oriented but also someone who wants a mix of fun in between their career. Someone who enjoys working with students and someone who is open and willing to learn from one another because I think learning from experience is one of the most powerful tools you can get.”
